Finasteride is 4-azasteroid which is synthesized in the lab and can inhibit the activity of an intracellular enzyme which is involved in the conversion of androgen testosterone in DHT or dihydrotestosterone. This product was firstly approved for the treatment of prostate hyperplasia (frequent urination which for its treatment needs surgery) in 1992 and was approved by the FDA. IN 1998 this product was approved to treat the hair loss in males. This product is of much importance in medical treatments. Finasteride is also available in the market in combination form to treat different diseases.
